The Book “Islamic Political Thought between Heritage and Contemporary Challenges”

A new book titled “Islamic Political Thought Between Heritage and Contemporary Challenges” has been recently published by Al-Baidar Center for Studies and Planning. The work is a collective effort authored by a distinguished group of researchers and intellectuals. The idea behind the book stems from the pressing need for a political philosophy grounded in firm and solid foundations. The study of such thought is considered essential for any political system that assumes—or aspires to assume—the responsibility of managing the affairs of governance, the state, and society.

Political thought is not merely the product of theory, but rather emerges from the serious challenges facing the current state of affairs. It seeks answers to central questions, aiming to bring modern understandings of the state or political system into dialogue with Islamic political thought. These include foundational inquiries such as: What is the origin of authority and what legitimizes it? How can a state be established? What is the nature of the relationship between the ruler and the people or the ummah? What are the instruments of governance and authority, and how are the primary institutions of the state interrelated? What are the guiding principles of a state’s foreign relations? Alongside many other fundamental and derivative questions.

This book raises numerous inquiries directed at a diverse group of scholars, intellectuals, and thought leaders, who have dedicated significant effort to their contributions. It is hoped that this publication will shed light on various dimensions that still require deeper jurisprudential and intellectual engagement—engagement that is open-minded, responsible, and free from the constraints of inherited perspectives shaped by their own temporal, spatial, and social contexts.
